The Minnesota Artists Association: 2013 Spring Juried Art Show runs from April 13th through May 18th.  The MAA is the first actual art organization in Minnesota.  It formed in 1937 when a group of artists joined forces to support and encourage each other in the face of adversity which was a result of the Great Depression.  Today the organization is made up of artists of all levels working in a variety of mediums.  The exhibit will include 90 works of art by 35 different artists. The show will open with a reception on Saturday April 13th from 7 to 9 pm.

Rachel Rolseth is a Minneapolis artist who combines various materials including acrylic paint, textured fine papers, gold leaf, charcoal, and ink to create her mixed media paintings.  Her work plays with the interdependence between shadow and light, yin and yang, and creation and destruction. Watercolor Impressions, At Home and Abroad, an exhibit of recent watercolor paintings by nationally aclaimed artist, Andy Evansen will open at the FrameWorks Gallery on Saturday September 8th and run through November 3rd. The exhibit will include plein air paintings created during the artist’s travels around the world as well as around the Midwest. Evansen says this about his style: “ I strive for an impressionistic portrayal of the landscape in my watercolors. By concentrating on the large shapes and overall design, and leaving something to the imagination, the viewer is forced to interpret details. This makes them a participant in the painting, enhancing their enjoyment of it.” The show opens with a reception on Saturday the 8th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The public is invited and admission is free.
